Effects--- Sage has anti-bacterial, Fungistatic, virostatic, astringent,
secretolytic, and perspiration-inhibiting effects
Parts used--- Dried leaves, Essential oil
Indications and usage---Leaf tea internally used as an antiseptic nerve and blood tonic. Loss of appetite, Inflammation of the
mouth and pharynx Memory loss, Wounds, Nervous exhaustion, Indigestion, Gas, Liver complaints, Night sweats, Excessive
lactation (as in Parkinson’s disease) Anxiety, depression, female sterility, Insect bites, throat, mouth, gum, and skin infections and
vaginal discharge.
\Economic uses--Oil is used as a fixative for perfumes: also added to toothpaste and cosmetics.
Culinary Uses---Leaves are used to flavor meats dishes (especially pork), liver, goose, soups, stews, sauces, stuffing’s. Active
ingredients- Essential oil, tannins, bitters, flavonoids.
Home use tips---Leaf tea used as an antiseptic nerve and blood tonic .As gargle for mouth and throat Put 1-2 teaspoons in 250 ml
cold water; bring to the boil and simmer for 1 min.
Sage preparations Not to be used during pregnancy.
